External Reviews
The Office of the Auditor General of Canada periodically requests quality assurance reviews from external organizations.
External Reviews
Even auditors get audited! Every 10 years or so, the Office of the Auditor General of Canada asks for a review by its peers. This gives us an outside appraisal of our practices and work. We return the favour when asked, too.
Our peers are other auditors who examine their own countries’ governments. As members of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions, we keep ourselves accountable.
These reviews look at how we do our audits and recommend improvements. The Auditor-General of South Africa conducted our most recent review in 2019. We prepared an action plan in response to the recommendations in the review. The Australian National Audit Office led the previous review in 2010.
External Validation
We also get periodic checks of how well we apply audit standards, like those of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA). The last report from the independent validator was in 2018.
