This supplementary information table supports reporting on green procurement activities in accordance with the Policy on Green Procurement.

Context

At the time of the development of the Sustainable Development Strategy for the Office of the Auditor General of Canada (OAG)—2020–2023, the OAG was not bound by the Federal Sustainable Development Act. The OAG voluntarily developed its strategy for this period. The strategy, including applicable reporting on green procurement activities, can be found on the OAG’s website.

Actions supporting the Greening Government goal and the Policy on Green Procurement

Support for green procurement will be strengthened, including guidance, tools, and training for public service employees.

4.1.1 By December 2022, review the OAG’s practices against the federal Policy on Green Procurement, with the aim of identifying additional measures that can be taken to further reduce the OAG’s ecological footprint.

Starting point: The OAG’s existing practices on procurement and its Procurement Management Framework.

Performance indicator: Completion of review of existing practices and additional measures identified and implemented.

Target: Completion of review and implementation of additional measures identified in the review by December 2022.

Results: The requirements of the Policy on Green Procurement have been reviewed, and green considerations have been incorporated in procurement processes and solicitation documents. To provide a specific example in a major spend category for the OAG, we are leveraging procurement instruments for professional services that request that suppliers commit to the following: Reduce paper consumption by transmitting reports in electronic format, and reduce travel by encouraging video conferencing or teleconferencing when possible.

FSDS: Green procurement incorporates environmental criteria into purchasing decisions, which is expected to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions and ecological footprint associated with goods and services purchased.

Support for green procurement will be strengthened, including guidance, tools, and training for public service employees.

4.1.1 By December 2022, review the OAG’s practices against the federal Policy on Green Procurement, with the aim of identifying additional measures that can be taken to further reduce the OAG’s ecological footprint.

Starting point: 75% of the OAG’s specialists in procurement or materiel management, or both, have taken the Canada School of Public Service’s Green Procurement course.

Performance indicator: Percentage of procurement staff trained on the Government of Canada’s Policy on Green Procurement.

Performance target: 100%

Results: 100% of the specialists in procurement who have been appointed at the OAG for longer than 6 months have completed the Canada School of Public Service’s Green Procurement course.

Report on integrating sustainable development

During the 2022–23 reporting cycle, the OAG had no proposals that required a strategic environmental assessment, and no public statements were produced.
