Ottawa, 24 October 2024—On Thursday, 7 November 2024, the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development, Jerry V. DeMarco, will deliver 5 reports to the House of Commons. Tabling in Parliament is expected at approximately 10:00 am (ET). Descriptions of the reports are provided below.

Reports included in this release are as follows:
Report 6—The Canadian Critical Minerals Strategy. This audit focuses on whether Natural Resources Canada, in collaboration with other federal organizations, developed an appropriate governance and reporting structure to implement the Canadian Critical Minerals Strategy in a manner that protects the environment and supports Indigenous communities by identifying risks and mitigating impacts. It also focuses on whether Natural Resources Canada delivered on initial actions in support of the Canadian Critical Minerals Strategy under the Critical Minerals Geoscience and Data Initiative.
Report 7—Canadian Net-Zero Emissions Accountability Act—2024 Report. This audit focuses on whether selected federal organizations had made progress towards effectively implementing selected measures to reduce Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions and whether Environment and Climate Change Canada had reported on progress in a transparent manner.
Report 8—Departmental Progress in Implementing Sustainable Development Strategies—Clean Energy. This audit focuses on whether the selected federal organizations contributed to meeting the target on clean power generation and the target on energy efficiency under the clean energy goal in the 2019–2022 Federal Sustainable Development Strategy and reported on their results towards the achievement of related targets 7.2 (to increase substantially the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix) and 7.3 (to double the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency) under the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 7 (affordable and clean energy), as applicable to each organization.
Report 9—Supporting Species at Risk Assessment and Reassessment—Environment and Climate Change Canada. This audit focuses on whether Environment and Climate Change Canada met requirements so that status assessments and timely reassessments for species at risk were completed. Environment and Climate Change Canada is required to provide the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada with the financial, administrative, and technical support it needs to assess and reassess the status of species at risk as required under the Species at Risk Act.
Report 10—Environmental Petitions Annual Report. This annual report on petitions informs Parliament and Canadians about the number, nature, and status of petitions received from 1 July 2023 to 30 June 2024.
