Summary: The petition is concerned about alleged contamination at 8 sites owned by the National Capital Commission located at 80, 84, and 100 Bayview Station Road in Ottawa. The petition states that these sites are listed in the Federal Contaminated Sites Inventory and alleges that they are contaminated, as a minimum, with halogenated hydrocarbons in the groundwater.
The petition alleges that one of the sites owned by the National Capital Commission, Site 00022831 in the Federal Contaminated Sites Inventory, has been subject to an active program of assessment and remediation since 2007 with a total of more than $1 million being spent by the National Capital Commission and the Federal Contaminated Sites Action Plan. In this context, the petition asks whether there are annual records of the contaminants in the water, the concentration of contaminants in the water, and the amount of material or water remediated.
The petition asks what the land use classifications are for each of the contaminated sites, whether the sites identified as “high priority for action” have remediation plans and, if they do, what their estimated remediation costs are. The petition also asks whether the National Capital Commission will develop housing action plans and prepare public consultations before further developing these contaminated sites.
