At the Office of the Auditor General of Canada (OAG) hiring students and recent graduates is a practice rooted in our history—many of our employees joined the OAG when they were students. We give talented students and graduates like you a real role in our organization. We will also provide you with the resources, guidance and mentoring you need to achieve your professional goals.

Financial audit summer student work-term

A position as a financial audit summer student is a great opportunity for university students looking for a head start in gaining work experience recognized by Chartered Professional AccountantsCPA Canada. Students work closely with audit professionals to build a foundation of knowledge and skills that will not only complement their studies, but also lead to a successful CPA certification.

To qualify, you must be

  • enrolled in a full-time undergraduate accounting program at a recognized university
  • returning to full-time studies in the semester following the completion of the financial audit summer student work-term
  • intending to obtain (or already in the process of obtaining) a CPA designation

Performance audit students enrolled in a master’s degree program

The OAG hires performance audit students who are currently enrolled in a master’s degree program in various fields such as public or business administration, environmental science, social sciences, applied science, law, and engineering, depending on our recruitment needs. Students can get a head start on learning for their future career in performance auditing.

Recent or soon-to-be graduates

University recruitment

Each year, we recruit recent and soon-to-be graduates from many different fields from universities across Canada.

Financial audit trainee program

The work performed by financial audit trainees during their three-year term within the OAG's pre-approved external audit program enables them to fulfill all of the CPA experience requirements and write the Common Final Examination (CFE). We support trainees with a CPA mentor, coaching, employer-paid tuition, paid study days, and examination fees.

On successful completion of the financial audit trainee program, financial audit trainees are promoted to the Audit Professional level. As audit professionals, they begin to perform independent audits and are given additional responsibilities. They may then be appointed as audit project leaders for a team of auditors.

Performance audit trainee program

The performance audit trainee program is open to candidates who have a master’s degree in a wide variety of fields such as public or business administration, environmental science, social sciences, applied science, law, and engineering. The two-year program allows trainees to develop their knowledge, skills, and abilities to conduct performance audits and involves formal training, practical experience, and mentoring.
